Rites Here Today For Longtime Resident, Jorgen Andersen, 81

Jorgen Andersen, 81, longtime and prominent Graettinger resident died about 10:30 p.m. Monday night at his home here after an illness of several weeks. He had been hospitalized for about ten days a month ago and had been confined to his home since that time by a heart ailment.

His death came on his 81st birthday and he had enjoyed many callers that day at home. Members of his family report that he had been feeling better Monday and Monday evening and his death came unexpectly shortly after he retired for the evening.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon, at two o'clock at First Lutheran church with the Rev. C. T. Fjelstul officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery at Wallingford. The Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers are Howard Hanson, Harvey Anderson, Nels Nelson, John Tindall, Melvin Anderson of Esterville, and Henry Jensen. Honorary pallbearers are Pete Paulson and Sylvester Berge of Wallingford, Chris Norris, Elmer Olson, Frank Christensen and Halver Clemitson.

Jorgen Andersen was born July 18, 1879 at Frederikshavn, Denmark. He came to this country in 1900. He married Mary a. Fogde June 12, 1935 and they have lived near and in Graettinger since that time. In addition to being a prominent farmer Mr. Andersen was a active leader and officer in many community, clvic and church activities.

Some of the community positions he held included being manager of the Farmers elevator here for a number of years, secretary of the elevator board for 23 years and he also served as secretary for the Farmers Creamery, of Graettinger for a simiar number of years, and was secretary of the Emmet County board of education for 25 years.

Mr. Andersen was Emmet County supervisor for one team, was president of the Graettinger Telephone company, was active in the establishment of the Graettinger Municipal Light Plant, serving president of the light plant board for a number of years.

He was a member of First Lutheran church where he took an active part in many activities and was widely known in clrouit district and synodical church circles. He served as a Sunday school teacher and congregational treasurer for a number of years and was instrumental in the founding and development of the Ingham Lake Bible Camp. He was currently the church cemetery custodian.

Immediate survivors include his wife, Mary; and children, Marie Reeves of Graettinger, and Lyle Andersen og Graettinger who made his home at the Jorgen Andersen's since he was six years old; and seven grandchildren, a brother Marinus Andersen of Clarion, Ia, and two brothers and three sisters living in Denmark. He was precaded in death by his first wife, Anna Myhre Andersen, who died Jan 3. 1933.
